Omena Woods: Nearly 50 Years of Conservation Successes
COMMITTED TO CONSERVATION SINCE 1976
The Omena Woods Association began with a commitment to conserving the land back in 1976 when the concept of setting aside land for the future was just beginning to gain momentum in the United States.
Today the Omena Woods Association has conserved 134 acres of beautiful land thanks to our members. Our conservation easement is monitored annually by the Leelanau Conservancy, which provides you with the assurance that the association board continues to manage this land for conservation.
Conservation Committee Efforts
One of OWA’s most important and active groups is Conservation Committee. They meet year round to review accomplishments and schedule the maintenance tasks that keep the Omena Woods property a pristine place to hike, to sit, to refresh and relax. For more on the Conservation Committee’s efforts in 2024, click here. (You’ll note that each month the committee’s tasks include making sure that downed limbs or trees block the trails. It’s an ongoing job but an important one for all of us who enjoy the trails.)
Forestry Management
Forester Rick Moore created a Forestry Management Plan in 2004. Since then we’ve updated it and you can read all about it by clicking the link below.
