Dear Omena Neighbor,

As a property owner in Omena, you are well aware of what a special place it is. It’s a unique and beautiful part of northern Michigan, relatively untouched by development and sprawl. We all treasure the sparkling waters of the bay, the wildflowers, the serenity of the woods in every season and driving or biking down our own “tunnel of trees” along Omena Point Road.

We would like to invite you to join many of your friends and neighbors in protecting the natural beauty of the peninsula and surrounding area by joining the Omena Woods Association.  The OWA is a non-profit organization formed in 1976 by a small group of concerned property owners, to preserve and protect the surrounding land from development.  Over forty years later, our membership has grown to over eighty-three families, dedicated to protecting our 134 acres.  Several years ago, the OWA partnered with the Leelanau Conservancy to help assure our Omena Woods acreage was preserved in perpetuity with a conservation easement.

We invite you to consider the purchase of a share in the organization and enjoy the many benefits and privileges of membership, including voting on issues at the Annual; Meeting.  One-quarter share is $2,500,  One-half share is $5,000 and a full share is $10,000.  Each of these categories is a voting membership.  The initial purchase of a share (or partial share) is not tax-deductible, since you become a part owner of the property.

The organization has come a long way since 1976, but it is vitally important to attract new members who share our vision.  Annual dues payments of $140 are used to pay for property taxes as well as forestry management projects and maintenance.

We hope you will consider membership in the Omena Woods Association.  I know you will agree, preserving Omena’s natural beauty is a worthwhile investment.  For more information please call any board member or visit www.omenawoods.com.  Thank you for your interest and support.
